Burmon Hurricane Anchor (Canadian Patent Application No. 2956685) is specifically designed to tie down roof trusses to wall frames for Canadian Building Systems and is fully certified and tested for use in accordance with the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) and 2012 International Building Code.

The revolutionary Burmon design enables the anchor to be securely fixed directly to the top plate. Using a cordless impact driver, simply attach the bracket to the top plate using Burmon panhead screws. The truss is then placed inside the bracket and fixed using Burmon roofing screws. This finishes the tie down of the trusses eliminating the hassle of going back later to nail off connectors. The Hurricane Anchor is faster and easier to install than ordinary conventional connectors whilst delivering a stronger tie down over the whole roof.

  1. To achieve twice the capacities for Burmon Anchors, use two anchors fixed one in front of the other on a minimum 6 inch wide top plate.
  2. Minimum quantity of fasteners to be installed. Product has additional screw holes not needed to meet published allowable load of product.

Step 1a. Position the Cyclone Bracket at the set out point on the top plate.

NOTE: DO NOT USE NAILS TO FIX INTO THE TOP PLATE.

Step 2. Place the Truss inside the Cyclone Bracket and secure screw(s) to each side of the truss.

Load Data

  1. The Limit state design capacities for the Burmon Cyclone Bracket resisting wind up lift are as shown in these tables. Design capacities have been obtained from Laboratory testing and procedures given in AS1720.1.
  2. For Higher load capacity use Burmon Over Strap - See Cyclone Bracket Extreme.
  3. Cyclone Bracket (Australian Patent 2013209390) is certified by Registered Structural Engineers for the Australian Building Industry in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and building Codes.

8 4 screws into top plate. (2 screws into alternate ends of bracket)
2 screw into the truss each side.
(if using Nails into the truss allow for 5 each side)
10 4 screws into top plate. (2 screws into alternate ends of bracket)
3 screw into the truss each side.
(if using Nails into the truss allow for 6 each side)
12 6 screws into top plate.
3 screws into the truss each side.
(if using Nails into the truss allow for 7 each side)
14 6 screws into top plate.
4 screws into the truss each side.
(if using Nails into the truss allow for 8 each side)
