The slender nature of wood I-joists is desirable for flexural resistance but comes at the price of lateral instability as they become susceptible to lateral torsional buckling (LTB) failure. When an I-Joist floor system is not restrained against lateral and angular displacements, it develops a tendency to undergo lateral torsional buckling when it is bent about its major axis.
Without Floorlock: The I-Joist flange carries the bending moments whilst the I-Joist web collects the sheer force. The sheer force is then transferred to the end of the I-Joist on the wall and to the foundation.
With Floorlock: The Floorlock bracing system disperses the bending moments and the sheer force across multiple I-Joists, providing superior load bearing capacity over the entire floor.
